I spent a fair amount of time in Kuala Lumpur and seemed to only scratch the surface. With the Ler family living less than an hour away from the city, we ended up there several times. Most of our time in K.L. was spent shopping as we had a jam packed schedule of sight seeing the rest of the week. I may not be a city slicker but overall I could get in to K.L. I had more fun people watching than anything! It almost seemed more diverse than New York City! The city has some great shopping. From high end designers to kitschy tourist stops and everything in between. Here are my favorite activities from the trip:
One of the more eye opening things I did in Malaysia was touring the Blue Mosque (Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz) in Shah Alam. Selangor's state mosque is a stunning structure with Malay and modern influences. After attending a small Methodist church for my entire life, I felt like I had been embossed in an entirely different realm. I was blown away by the architecture of the building.
From being a fan of many a blog, I've come to realize people love to recommend restaurants as part of their stay. Well, I'm here to tell you that if you visit Malaysia you can get a dang good meal just about anywhere! The types of food you eat though, that is a whole 'nother…
Langkawi, more commonly known as "Eagle Island" was an absolute dream. After Hat Yai Thailand we headed back to Alor Setar to catch the ferry over to Langkawi. We hiked, snorkeled, ate lots of sea food, and took an epic ride on the sky cab! I enjoyed my trip here very much, but yikes did the humidity catch up to me!
